Advocate: Testing for Ovarian Cancer

Currently, there is no screening test for ovarian cancer. The disease often shows no symptoms in its early stages, and by the time symptoms appear, the cancer has usually spread to other organs. Most reproductive cancers are detected during pelvic or ultrasound exams, but insurance often does not cover these exams without a diagnosis.

The Oshun Charitable Organization collaborates with hospitals and community centers serving Black women to provide educational materials about ovarian cancer. We also advocate for early testing with doctors who care for lower-income and underinsured Black women. Our goal is to ensure that these women receive the necessary information and support to detect ovarian cancer as early as possible.
